Castle Siege Deep Dive

General

12/11/24

No matter your strategy, all tactics will converge at the throne during the first Castle Siege on November 17. There can only be one champion of Stoneguard Castle. Form alliances to rule together or betray your way to the top.

The current reigning guild will close gates, bolster defenses, and relentlessly fight to stop those brave, or foolish enough, to attempt to seize control. You’ll need to contend with other ambitious guilds vying for the throne. Dodge raining arrows, cascading spells, and more while laying siege in numerous ways based on your playstyle:

  • Brute force: Breach the castle walls with massive golem transformations.

  • Stealth: Sneak through the sewers to attract less attention. Just make sure it isn’t raining...

  • Opportunistic: Hitch a ride on a giant flying whale to bypass the castle’s defenses or take advantage of the chaos amidst another guild’s push to make your own advancement elsewhere.

Overview

As the siege begins, guilds have 45 minutes to achieve victory. Attackers must storm the castle, breach its fortified gates, and capture the throne room. Defenders, transported inside the castle at the start, must hold their ground, leveraging every resource at their disposal to repel the invaders. If the throne is contested when the timer runs out, the siege enters a tense 3-minute overtime, where the battle's outcome hangs in the balance.

Strategic locations like Siege Ruins play a crucial role. Capturing these ruins not only provides teleportation and resurrection points, but also allows attacking guilds to summon powerful Siege Golems. Each golem — whether it’s the Stone Crasher, Battle Carrier, Gate Hammer, or Jump Attacker — brings unique abilities to the battlefield, from devastating castle walls to transporting players over them.

Meanwhile, defenders must navigate the castle's intricate layout, watch out for ambushes from the sewage system, and operate gate levers to control access points. The Pillage Stones and Resurrection Stones scattered throughout the battlefield add another layer of strategy, offering opportunities to steal resources or reinforce their position.

While most guilds will focus on taking power in the throne room, Pillage Stones can be captured by any guild to snatch Sollant and Lucent from the castle vault, even if the reigning guild maintains control. Whoever claims the throne will be doused in wealth and receive the prestigious title of Legion Guild.

The Legion Guild

Prior to the ascension of the first Legion Guild, the First Defender was chosen based on guild rank. Those who conquer Stoneguard Castle control Solisium. It manages the castle, tax rates, when certain items can be purchased, and the Tax Delivery.

Siege Ruins

There are four Siege Ruins positioned just outside of the Outer Walls. Once captured, they become teleportation points and allow attacking guilds to summon destructive Siege Golems.

  • The Legion Guild cannot capture these points, so they must trust their allies to handle them.

  • Siege Ruins require the guild ranks Leader, Advisor, or Guardian to capture.

Player Colors

During a Siege, character names, guild marks, and outfit colors will change:

  • Blue outfits: The guild mark for players in the same or friendly guilds will turn blue.

  • Red outfits: Other guilds will have their guild marks displayed in red. Four random numbers will be displayed in the format of ‘red1234’.

  • Yellow outfits: The usurping guild will be displayed as yellow.

  • Special marks: Guild leaders, Guardians, and Staff Officers will have special icons next to their name.

Golems and Siege Tools

Sabotage your enemy’s defenses with Siege Golems. Golems are hulking weapons of destruction for demolishing walls and other players.

Summoning Golems require Golem Slates. Guilds can purchase Golem Slates from the Guild Supplies Merchant within their Guild Base. Each Golem works differently and can only be summoned from a captured Siege Ruin.

  • Stone Crashers are used to destroy walls, towers, and gates, but can also help with picking enemies off the walls.

  • Battle Carriers are transport golems that can go up to a wall and allow a player to walk across.

  • Gate Hammers are ranged golems used to destroy gates, walls, and towers from a distance. They can also reduce damage for a short time.

  • Jump Attackers are deadly golems specialized in scaling walls and hunting enemies.

Golems are mighty tools to help attacking guilds break through the castle’s defenses, but they can only be active for a short time. Capitalize on their unique abilities to overcome any situation.

Gate Levers

Forcing the gate open is another option if Golems fail to tear down the walls. Every gate in Stoneguard is controlled by a special set of levers. There are three gates: the Outer Wall Gate, the Inner Wall Gate, and the Side Gate. Each one requires two players to operate. Coordinate with your guild to forge multiple paths forward.

Resurrection Stones

Capture any of the three Resurrection Stones to pressure the Legion Guild and their allies through closer respawns. The best way to claim the throne or capture Pillage Stones is to get back into the fight faster.

Pillage Stones

Why not steal some of the spoils instead of solely focusing on the throne? Every 5 minutes, captured Pillage Stones will deliver Lucent and Sollant from the castle vault. Any guild rank can claim these objectives but higher ranks will capture them faster.

The Throne Room

For some, the hardest part is reaching the throne. For others, the true fight doesn’t begin until they enter its regal halls.

  • Guild leaders that interact with the throne will transform into the Usurper.

  • Usurpers are gigantic knights. They’re extremely durable and become increasingly difficult to kill based on the number of nearby allies. To successfully take over the castle, a Usurper must survive for 3 minutes within the capture zone of the throne room.

  • A successful capture does not ensure victory. The next Legion Guild will be crowned when the 45 minute timer expires.

Good luck!
